"If you have a body you are an athlete." Bill Bowerman, co-founder of Nike, said this a couple of decades ago. The guy was right. It defines how he viewed the world, and it defines how Nike pursues its destiny. Nike's mission has always been to provide a competitive edge, to help athletes perform better. They climb inside the athletic mind. They feel every beat of the athletic heart. They flex, bend, twist and torque every inch of athletic sinew and muscle. It's not easy, but it's natural for Nike because they are athletes.
Ever since the fateful day in 1971 when a University of Oregon track coach named Bill Bowerman poured rubber into his wife's waffle iron, technological innovation has been the spark that lights Nike's fire. The Waffle outsole transformed the running world. Soon after, Nike Air evolved Nike's revolutionary impact on sports. The strength of Nike Air is its versatility. Beyond its basic function of impact protection, it can be shaped and tuned to meet the specific demands of contemporary athletes: Max Air, Zoom Air and Tuned Air. In 2001, Nike introduced Nike Shox, unique columns of engineered foam, and a new revolution in cushioning began.
As human potential evolves, so must our products. For three decades, we have been committed to giving athletes of every make, model and body style, who compete and recreate in ways never before imagined, the very best performance product. Products of the pure imagination. Products that move the needle of performance. Products that help us be the athletes we know we are. |
